We must become the change we want to see ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Villages are the backbones of our nation. A woman is the fulcrum of a family. Empowering them would lay the foundation for a stronger and brighter nation. We have a multitude of programs and activities with this motto as the backdrop. Socially uplifting the weaker sections of society, and economically empowering the deprived masses, is an absolute necessity for the creation of a happy society.

  • Gadadhara Abhyudaya Prakalpa (Integrated Child Development Programme) – This is a complete children development programme for the care and development of their body, mind and intellect. As part of the program, nutritious food, milk, nutrition supplements, vitamins, soap, tooth paste, hair oil for hygiene are distributed among the needy. Study materials like school bags, note book and stationeries are provided as well. This is a daily programme in which students in the age group of 5 – 12 years from nearby Schools come to the Ashram in the evening and participate in this programme.
  • Swami Vivekananda Swasthya Pariseva Prakalpa(Swami Vivekananda Health Care Project) – This is a noble programme for providing nutritious food and medicines, for children suffering from malnutrition and lack of medical care. The Ashram is running the unit to make them strong, productive and enlightened citizens of India. This programme is presently being conducted in three Government Schools.
  • Akhandananda Seva Prakalpa(Integrated Village Development Project) – This is a poverty alleviation programme for people in rural and tribal areas living in and around Ponnampet. The aim of the program is to help poor people to get Vocational training in courses (Tailoring, Mushroom Cultivation, Bee-keeping, Motor Driving etc.,) through which they can earn their livelihood. Apart from running non-formal schools and creating public awareness of Health and Hygiene, toilets are being constructed for those families who are not having access to these. It conducts value based educational classes and also assists in social causes like counseling on Alcohol De-addiction.
  • Relief and rehabilitation activities – Kodagu has nature’s gift in abundance. Rain too breaks its shackles in wanton abundance during the rainy season. Though it can be a blessing for nature and people alike, poor people with meagre shelter face the brunt of nature’s fury. The Ashram conducts relief work in the form of providing shelters and other appropriate necessities like woollen blankets and clothes for the needy as and when needed.
  • We have taken many initiatives to make rural women self-dependent, and as part of this initiative, we have organized vocational training on tailoring, incense stick making and embroidery.
  • In nature, mushrooms are a seasonal commodity, available only for a period of one month in the entire year. However, there is a huge demand in the market for mushrooms throughout the year. Considering the ease of growing mushrooms, it is a great opportunity for rural youth; especially educated but unemployed children of farmers, as cultivation of mushrooms require little investment. With sufficient training, mushroom cultivation can be made a profitable business. To this effect, the Ashram has been conducting vocational training courses in mushroom cultivation, to interested rural youth.
  • Honey is a natural sweetener, having its own therapeutic and medicinal uses. Kodagu is bestowed with abundance of naturally grown bee hives, since the alluring weather and moist green forests are most accommodative to the honey bearing bees. Using scientific techniques to tap the vast reserves of bees, in growing and harvesting bee hives, would be a source of employment to the unemployed rural youth. Vocational courses, providing training on bee hive keeping, is imparted to interested rural youth by the Ashram.
  • We help the unemployed rural youth in learning motor driving, thereby providing them means to be employed.
