National Youth Day – A solid foundation of character and nobility among the younger generation is the basis for the sprouting of veritable human gems, which would spring forth with consummate ease in this tumultuous and guileful modern day society. The younger generation need not look too far, to find an inspirational idol who would lead them to be an ideal citizen. Swami Vivekananda was, is, and would be a youth icon, for eternity. His life and teachings is an ideal beacon of light for the younger generation to follow and imbibe.
The Government of India declared Swami Vivekananda’s birth day, which falls on the 12th of January according to the English calendar, as National Youth Day from the year 1985. Various events are held all over India to celebrate this day, which would be a glorious tribute to the ideals and principles upheld by Swami Vivekananda.
